John JJ Jones (1966, Detroit, BA in Film Studies from the University of Michigan) began working as an active performance artist and singer in Berlin in 1996, mainly as the lead singer of the "trash art ensemble", Fuzzy Love. He was also active with a re-launch of the cult 80's band Der Plan, among other projects.
In Nashville, he expanded his musical perspectives, singing in a Serbian Orthodox church choir, and writing and singing solos for a number of other churches. At the same time, he founded ecclesiaudio, a musical collaborative project where he began to experiment with pure improvisation. His less spiritual pursuits in the USA involved performances as The Human Snow Globe, singing kitschy covers of Christmas songs inside an inflatable bubble.
Back in Germany (Munich), JJ Jones worked musically on radio plays, such as the award-winning Rauschunterdrückung from Ulrich Bassenge and film soundtracks like Sommer in Orange, as well as with the band Tosca (by Richard Dorfmeister and Rupert Huber on their album Odeon).
Since 2012, he has hosted and conceived the event Same Old Song, in which several live acts interpret a single song in a variety of ways for one evening. His latest work is a solo piece, Vox on Vinyl, an aural collage that combines the recording of Nils Frahm with vocal interpretations of the texts of Meister Eckhard and David Bowie.
John JJ Jones (1966, Detroit, BA in Filmwissenschaft an der University of Michigan) begann 1996 in Berlin als aktiver Performance-Künstler und Sänger zu arbeiten, hauptsächlich als Leadsänger des "Trash Art Ensembles" Fuzzy Love. Außerdem war er u.a. bei der Wiederaufnahme der Kultband der 80er Jahre Der Plan aktiv.
In Nashville erweiterte er seine musikalischen Perspektiven, indem er in einem serbisch-orthodoxen Kirchenchor sang und Solos für eine Reihe anderer Kirchen schrieb und sang. Gleichzeitig gründete er ecclesiaudio, ein musikalisches Gemeinschaftsprojekt, in dem er mit reiner Improvisation zu experimentieren begann. Zu seinen weniger spirituellen Bestrebungen in den USA gehörten Auftritte als The Human Snow Globe, bei denen er in einer aufblasbaren Blase kitschige Covers von Weihnachtsliedern sang.
Zurück in Deutschland (München) arbeitete JJ Jones musikalisch an Hörspielen, wie der preisgekrönten Rauschunterdrückung von Ulrich Bassenge und Film-Soundtracks wie Sommer in Orange, sowie mit der Band Tosca (von Richard Dorfmeister und Rupert Huber auf ihrem Album Odeon).
Seit 2012 moderiert und konzipiert er die Veranstaltung Same Old Song, bei der mehrere Live-Acts einen Abend lang ein einzelnes Lied auf unterschiedliche Weise interpretieren. Sein jüngstes Werk ist ein Solostück, Vox on Vinyl, eine Klangcollage, die die Aufnahme von Nils Frahm mit vokalen Interpretationen der Texte von Meister Eckhard und David Bowie verbindet.
